Hi, I recently downloaded Slax, my first foray into the world of Linux.
I'm keen to learn stuff, I've dabbled in various computer things for years, but I have no familiarity with Linux.
So, the question is, having gotten slax running on my acer laptop I'm wondering how to get it online.
I have access to a wired internet connection (DSL I believe) as well as wireless at the local library.
Im new (very new) too with slax (bootable usb) and I use an orange's modem 3G. What must I do for getting in the net? I've tried with wine but I can't.
It seems to you are really newbie,
because you use wine as networking tool.
I prefer wine as game installing.
Basically internet connecting is hard part.
It need to read some document,
But you don't have to read book.
I am winner at ADSL and standard LAN which work well with dhcp, but
still loser at newest thing such like orange's modem 3G. I hope you will be winner at 3g modem
as you are new in Linux you may find many problem based on programming as well in installation so kindly go through the link linuxsurvival.com and find the all answer....
Connecting via Ethernet should be automatic with DHCP, which is what I've seen in most cases with Ethernet. Otherwise, Slax has tools you can use for that if you need to enter manual settings. Now... if you're using a wireless connection with WPA/WPA2, that is a different story. You will need a module or two to get all that going.
