I have a laptop with NO HARD DRIVE and i have been using a Ubuntu live cd. But the issue with Ubuntu is there are no mp3 codecs loaded on it. So I decided to use slax, but so far making a bootable cd has been a failure. I created a iso by:
1. Downloading iso (Custom Built)
2. Unziped the folders
3. Using Nero Lite Created a iso with the folders [boot], Boot, and slac. sent to my documents folder
4. moved the iso to the disc drive
5. burned the iso to a cd
Did I do Something Wrong?
or
Does slax require a o/s on the laptop in order to work?
This part is wrong.
The iso image is to be burn to the cd as an iso image.
It is not meant to be unzipped.
Once the iso is burned the folders structure will be shown.
It's been a very long time since I last use nero .Look for burn cd image / burn iso image option or something similar , but no matter what the iso is meant to be burn as it is , and not extracted /unzipped.
Your error comes from unzipping the iso so you arejust burning the unzipped iso as data , hence it becomes unbootable ,
Slax is a livecd so it doesn't need an os on the hard disk to work.
I reread your post:
2. Unziped the folders
3. Using Nero Lite Created a iso with the folders [boot], Boot, and slac. sent to my documents folder
You mentioned unzipping (step 2) and the recreating the iso (3).
I am not sure why ? . Were trying to add extra modules ? (But you already mentioned using custom built module).
You can unzipped slax iso ,add modules and recreate the iso using the make_iso.sh or make_iso.bat in slax .
Just make sure the last step 5 .Burning the iso , you must burn the iso as iso image /cd image /bootable image (the terms used varies with the software) and not as data, otherwise it would be unbootable.
@ TruBlue ... the proper way to do it with slax is to download the slax612.iso file -- then burn that to a cd blank =>as a disk image. You don't need to do anything about copying files out of the iso, or do anything extra to make it bootable. Nero has the option of burning a cd image.
