I've moved the entire site and Slax Drive storage to a different location (Denver, US).
The move to a new server was needed for long time.
Some DNS problems are expected, I hope majority of people is able to see the new site now.
Other improvements include:
- RAID5 for all data, including Slax Drive accounts
- more RAM for the server
- faster CPU
- bigger hard drives
As a result of the move, all current and future Slax Drive account holders are now able to store up to 1000MB of data for free! Everybody is welcome to buy additional storage to support Slax. FYI, the new server costs $150 monthly, while paid Slax Drive costs $3 monthly per additional gigabyte.
i have tryed everything.. running the application as administrator, i have disabled the windows firewall, even the antivirus..
Do you have any ideea why is not working?
Thank you
I have the same error in Slax remix v05 and Windows 7.
My port forwarding configuration: http://i41.tinypic.com/2ibhkch.png
uttorent and ktorrent works excellent for port 30001 - the check is successful.
@Blaze89
good:)
now - could you start any network service (amule, torrent, apache, ftp etc.) on each of those ports and check if they are accessible from the internet ?
@Blaze89
are you sure that forwarding rules were still active on the router?
i can't believe that your ISP is blocking even port 80 (incoming http traffic)!
Are there other people out there with e-mail accounts at hotmail, who don't receive the slax-drive invitation mail?
It even doesn't make it to the spambox .. :(
I'm trying to download the slax and my configuration is not reached the same 90MB just for no apparent reason and never step of 30KB / s, making a test I put another download another image on a website and downloaded track and 130kb / s I made attempts between 22:00 pm and 23:40 pm (Brasilia Time - Brazil), is there a more appropriate time with fewer connections on the site of Slax??
I am using slax 6.1.2 on a thumb drive and when I try to use the slax drive icon I get the same message. check your username and password and that the ports are open. I know my username and pasword are correct. why would this not work in slax?
THE ERROR YOUR FACING IS RESULTING DUE TO AN INCORRECT PASSWORD BUT NOT DUE TO ANY FIREWALL, PORT PROBLEM!
THE PASSWORD YOU HAVE FOR SLAX.ORG AND THE PASSWORD FOR SLAX DRIVE IS NOT THE SAME!
CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS FOR ACTIVATING YOUR SLAX DRIVE!
THERE YOU WILL GET A PASSWORD FOR YOUR SLAX AUTHENTICATION!
THEN VIOLA! ALL PROBLEMS GONE AND IT WILL WORK FINE!
SLAX IS THE BEST! only if i didnt face few of the boot up problems (like system files set to read only, THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN, press ctrl alt del to reboot......and i can never resume and get my changes wrking but ALWAYS hav to start fresh!
YOUR SOLUTION REALLY REALLY HELPED ME!
After reading your message i found out that there was another password for slax drive instead fooling around to open ports.
OK for those that claim that the only problem is incorrect password you are wrong. I have confirmed and re-verified that I am using the correct password that was e-mailed to me and I am still getting the same error message. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can resolve this issue?
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks
For some reason I do NOT receive activation email with password for slax-drive.
I have checked e-mail on the account is correct, I have checked junk folder - nothing there,
I have tried to resend activation link few times - not working for me.
Any suggestions? What can i try?
So I've set up - other account instead of "UncleDen" with other email address.
Now I received activation link with password - I did activation - waited while server set up 60 seconds.
But still can't log in to Slax-drive.
Same error thingie about blocked ports...
Suggestions?
@UncleDen
Do you use a hotmail account? (for the first post you made in this thread)
On my hotmail account I face the same problem you had.. don't receive the activation mail.. (not even in spam)
Anyway, did the same as you did, set up second slax account, other mail address..
Until now I only found the time to test the .exe file Tomas provided.
I only did try it under wine, which gave me the same error message.. you described..
(using wine instead of the "real windows OS" can pretty much explain the fact that it does not work in my case)
Did you check if your ISP doesn't block one of those ports?
(just a thought)
I have the login info. But where do I connect? Address, port, protocol? Currently I am on a Debian machine. But it would be good to be able to access files from others as well. Did I miss something fundamental?
"You can use it from within Slax, or even without Slax at all."
.. so you didn't even read the 3 steps to get your slaxdrive... :s In order to map your Slax Drive in Slax operating system, simply click the appropriate icon on the desktop.
.. if you want to access your slaxdrive in windows, use this program: http://www.slax.org/SlaxDrive.exe
Oh I read them alright. And several times too. But Gnome in Debian don't have an appropriate icon to the Slax drive. Neither do XFCE4 in Slackware, or OpenBSD, QNX and Solaris. I checked. Now, however I have booted a machine with the Slax live CD and got the error message stating that the firewall need to be open on ports 80, 137, 138, 139 and 445. Now I just need to work out the rest ...
Contents of the "Slax Drive" file:[Desktop Entry]
Dev=//servername
Icon=hdd_mount
MountPoint=/mnt/slaxdrive
ReadOnly=false
Type=FSDevice
UnmountIcon=hdd_unmount
I don't think it's possible in an easy way, -for now- to map the slax drive without using KDE..
take a look at this link: http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-latest.html
and, then you'll come across this: B. Currently reserved for use within KDE
For historical reasons KDE is using some KDE-specific extensions that are currently not prefixed by a X-KDE- prefix.
KDE specific keys: ServiceTypes, DocPath, Keywords, InitialPreference
KDE specific types: ServiceType, Service and FSDevice
KDE uses the following additional keys for desktop entries of the FSDevice type
I'm trying to be constructive and not malicious here. A flame fest is not on my agenda. But perhaps a few ambiguous sentences should be updated.
You can use it from within Slax, or even without Slax at all.
Very good. But the only other way seems to be with Windows, equipped with a special client.
Slax Drive is your powerfull personal disk, accessible from everywhere.
Provided you use a "special" computer that is.
You can put your files there and then access them from any computer easily.
Not any computer, and not easily.
Both operating systems are supported: Linux and Windows too.
Windows is not the only other OS out there. And even though Slax is a Linux distro, apparently, only Slax is supported AND in need of KDE too.
As it stands, the information given is misleading.
If ever I get to teach again, I'll further investigate Slax. Thanks.
You can add slax drive to "places" instead of using the mount script..
thnx to ecelis: To connect from CentOS 5.3 or Ubuntu 9.04, you can use the "Connect to Server" option in the Gnome Places menu.
Places->Connect to Server... and fill in the following:
Service type: Windows share
Server: drive.slax.org
Share or Folder: YourSlaxDriveUserName
Click Connect button, and wait for the password dialog.
I have to use a proxy to access the internet.Under Linux, it is easy to set.But when using Windows, I could not find where to set the proxy in Map Slax Drive so no access the slax drive in windows.Any suggestion would be appreciated.
there is a problem with slex when i am using live cd of slax it report module not found and currupted download.
infact i allready download it two time.
please send your suggestion at my email address
virendermvs@gmail.com
I am running slax from 2GB USB stick auto booting to it on computer startup therefore no windows components to be concerned about.
Created slax A/C last night - signed in no probs after confirming via email.
Error: Slax Drive could not be mapped. Please verify your network connectionand make sure to use correct username and password. Also please check your firewall settings, you will need the following ports open for Slax Drive: 80;137;138;139;445.
Pardon me for my lack of knowledge but last night was the first time I have delved into portable, tiny O/S (Slax), etc.
Is there a built in firewall in Slax o/s?
Also, in my router settings I can see that I can forward ports (TCP/UDP) should I try opening all the above mentioned ports on both TCP AND UDP?
Thanks for any assistance you can offer. Slax Drive would be very benficial to me as I have very limited pace on my USB key.
As someone mentioned above it was indeed an account username password problem.
The original account I setup was for this site and forums only (quite misleading as it was setup from the Slax Drive icon on the desktop!).
I had to setup a new user/pass for Slax Drive HERE on the website and was promply emailed a different password (not created by me) specific to the Slax Drive.
So, the bottom line is: YOU NEED TO REGISTER TWICE! ONCE FOR THE FORUMS & ONCE FOR THE SLAX DRIVE.
1. I downloaded Ooo3.2 (en) module but on trying to install in Slax 6.2 , it says there is no memory. My ram is 384 MB only. Can I do something ?
2. How to remaster Slax 6.2 on a CD ?
Prof. R. Jayaram, India.slax 6.2 is the regular slax version with support for 4GB ram.
Low ram: maybe creating a swap partition will do the trick. (I don't think in slax 6.x swapfiles are supported)
Remastering: unpack (lzm2dir) the base modules in slax/base and you can go from there..
But maybe in your case using the linux live scripts (used to build slax) will be a better solution.. http://www.linux-live.org/
Or you could try the slax remix version from Fanthom:
(boot with kde or lxde) http://www.slax.org/forum.php?action=view&parentID=62815
be aware of the service packs you will have to apply.. (scroll down the thread & you will find them among other useful modules)
slax remix uses sq4 instead of sq3, so you will have to convert regular slax modules to sq4.
The tool to do this is included in slax remix.
Firstly , you need to post your question in a proper thread . If none exist or if you can't find any relevant thread (or any recent thread) , then create a new thread with a "proper descriptive title".
Simply posting a question on any other irrelevant thread , immediately gives the impression that you are adopting "I can't really be bothered " attitude.
For the memory problem , as suggested try adding a swap partition or swap file.
This maybe of interest to you:
(a) Copy slax over to a writeable media with sufficient free space . Make the changes you want. then run the make_iso.bat or make_iso.sh (depending on which os you are working in). The script in found in /slax.
It will will make a new slax iso and you will be prompted for a name and location for the new iso.
I have SLAX on a USB and have tried to setup SLAX drive.
I have registered the SLAX drive and received my password for said SLAX drive.
Using a HP Mini 5102 running Windows7 Home Premuim and connected to a wireless broadband ISP(OPTUS) here in Australia, I was able to map the SLAX drive.
When I connect my HP Mini to my in-house network I cannot not map the SLAX drive. I get the message others are getting about "ports: 80, 137, 138, 139, 445 is not opened".
So the issue is not Windows 7, or my access to the SLAX drive. It has something to do with my network.
I have both XP Pro and Vista Home Premium PCs on my home network and neither of them can connect to the SLAX drive using the same credentials that worked on the HP Mini when *not* connected to my home network.
I am connected to the Internet via cable through a Netgear CG814WG cable modem/router.
If the ports 80, 137, 138, 139, 445 are open and you still can not map the slax drive, it's probably your Internet Service Provider that's blocking those ports... (not likely, but possible)
I have set the Port Forwarding as directed by the Manual; I had already setup port 80 for the PC, and I ensured that NetBIOS over Internet was active on the PC also. But, to no avail unfortunately.
I find it interesting that I can access the SLAX drive using my HP Mini connecting using the Optus Business Broadband Wireless connection here in Australia, where my Bigpond Cable Broadband connection fails. I wonder if Bigpond do, as you suggest, block port 137-139 and 445; port 80 works because I use it already.
Do you know of a way in which I can test each of these ports individually to determine which of them is being blocked?
I can't to go to Slax Drive. In the Windows and Slax show:Slax Drive could not be mapped. Please verify your network connection and make sure to use correct username and password. Also please check your firewall settings, you will need the following ports open for Slax Drive: 80; 137; 138; 139; 445" Help please!!! I tried some times, but he shows this message
I'm amazed with the slax drive feature I recently signed up and found it easy to use although my internet connection is relatively slow it I manged to do a few things I could think of if this from Zimbabwe in Africa can use slax drive the rest of the world can surely do so, I'm seriously considering increasing my storage space
to map it on mac
enable SMB
in finder connect to server "smb://drive.slax.org/yourusername"
then it will ask for ur username and password (the one from the activation email)
its done i just tried it
well i was super excited that i found slax! its great its on a usb and i can toat it everywhere and i see there is a online drive for it! hell ya!!! but i get the same error message as the rest of this group...not so much portable if you have to configure the ports for every router you encounter....FAIL! so im not too inpressed =[ so i would love to hear if there is something at least like this slax drive but more.... portable.
Jak mám udělat aby mi usb bootovalo v biosu žádné usb není.Akdyž slax spustím z DVD-RW tak se mi po nějaké době objeví okno které se zjevuje při načítání.
"Due to massive usage but zero income for Slax project, and due to technical issues involving server move (which was necessary due to failing hardware), the Slax Drive has been permanently suspended. If you desperately need your files, contact me at tomas@slax.org to negotiate manual transmission of your files to you. Else remain quiet and your files will be securely deleted in few weeks."
I lost my files to this... Nothing important though

Slax Drive was down for a while, the plan is to shutdown the service soon.
For popular demand, I put the old server online again and started only Slax Drive services there. I do not know how long could I retain that since it costs $149 monthly and I have no other use for the server machine there. I would care about this service more, but since nobody paid for it, I feel no hesitations to discontinue it at my will. Sorry.
what a shame. I did try it for curiosity and it is/was good.. easy fast..

cool feature but to much costs to carry yourself, it was a good idea to stop it. Is it possible to redirect slax drive to an other place/server(my own?). i have not tryed it yet as im waiting for slax 7 before i get back in the project again :D
I have a Hp mini 5102 but, I cant get the wifi to work. It looks like the kernel is .configured to load the firmware and I copied the file to the directory. What did I miss? or rather: How'd you get it to work? or are you you even using slax on it?

If you read Tomas's post about six posts back he mentioned the possibility of shutting down the service . Maybe slax drive had already been shut down ?.

That's really helpful for me. However I has program which is working always like fresh in which you have to boot up the system on every portability.
So the Slax Drive has been moved but the message in red on the slax drive page has been there for now 3 1/2 months. When is it going to be running again?

plus 65 days.
Well ... I've created 2 accounts on the slax account page and still no email message.
One email was earthlink.net and the other embarqmail.com. What now ?
