hmmm... Windows 7 eh? Finally the ability to send feedback from the titlebar of a command prompt window! what will m$ think up next :) It does take some guts to run an os that m$ actually acknowledges is in beta.

Who knows why Win7 stumbles over a simple bat file? Probably some expanded form of 'user access control' or some garbage.

The best advice I could give you would be to open up the bat file in notepad and examine the line that runs syslinux, then navigate to your flash drive from a command prompt and try typing the command in manually. It goes something like this: syslinux -ma J: (Note: Replace the J with the letter of your USB drive)

I hope some of this is helpful (besides the obligatory windows bashing). Here's hoping that Win7 is as successful as vista was (a repeat of the Win ME fiascal?), maybe next year we will see Win8!

or you could boot slax from a cd and run bootinst.sh

I'm aware that this is an old thread, but in any case if someone bumps into this thread, I guess it'll be helpful to find a solution here:

I'm using Win7 Ultimate x64, and this is what I did to use bootinst.bat instead of running the shell script from a Linux based OS:

1. Start cmd with administrator privilege
2. go to the drive letter of interest
3. key in: boot\syslinux\syslinux.exe -maf -d \boot\syslinux :

eg. if my USB drive is H:

h:
boot\syslinux\syslinux.exe -maf -d \boot\syslinux H:

and voila! the USB drive will now boot into Slax :)

Run cmd.exe as administrator

At prompt, change the file path to the path of your flash drive.

Then, run the batch file.

E.G. My flash drive was assigned to my F drive.

C:\>cd f:\boot

f:\boot>sysinst.bat
