How sad, that someone uses a name similar to you jcsoh one of the most helpful and caring member of slax forum. Hope they(Spammers) go away and fast! otherwise, we have to clean up their Pooop!
Well, you know what they say about the cost of freedom (and quality forums): eternal vigilance. It is a dandy idea to let the forum users identify and flag the spammers on the board. Community standards works!
I don't know what you guys think about this whole situation, but I've clicked 'report spam' on three spam posts already! All related to video converting or similar, too. :) I wish there was a way that we could keep the forum clean, but that's life... and why we've got a spam button, I guess.
Slax really has got an excellent forum. :D We just need to keep it that way.

spam bots are really smart nowadays. looks like they can sniff letters from graphical images and register successfully on the forum.
on another forum we had to drop 'captcha images' displayed during registration in favor of few simple questions like:
"Q: What's the name of Internet browser used in our OS
A: Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox"
or
"What's the name of the distro hosted on this site?"
and
"What's the name of the person who initiated the development of the Linux kernel: Bill Gates or Linus Torvalds?"
questions must be easy to answer even for non IT person. on the other hand they are hard to guess for spam bots and eliminate 95% of the spam problem on the forum.
something to consider if this problem escalates in the future.
Spam has really been on the rise lately. I've cleaned up quite a few "spams" just yesterday alone, and more today. For the interested in combating spam, it's even sneaking into posts! Just thought I'd keep people posted, so we can all be on a sharp lookout for spam... Thanks.

It sems each time some new tablets /webcam / new high tect device is release , they (the spammer ) have some " you just got to use it" solution.
Some may actually be useful .It's just that posting on slax's make it a spam.

As the current level of activity on slax's forum , if you leave the spams , within a short time there will probably more spams than actual slax's / linux's questions /postings.

Sadly you are right! I would only hope that Tomas could ban the lisa19854's, the josh520's, and other (he|she|it|whatever) a$$holes from posting. Being on slax forum is a priviledge and these folks should know that we don't care about
HOW TO MAKE A *AVI on new MACBOOK, ..., etc stuff that they post. We don't care about this! or do others really care for what these folks post?
They could always contact Tomas , free ad /spam on slax's forum in return for free mac /tablets and what not for Tomas...

Obviously only those who have the particular device (tablet /camcorder /laptop or whatever ) will have any interest.
But using "google" they can easily get numerous links and how relevant are the links depends on they way they phrase their search term.
Spamming is simply forcing ads down the users throat. I can accept ads if Tomas place /allow ads as a revenue collection scheme to offset the cost of hosting slax's forum.

As far as ads are concerned , I recalled Tomas did mentioned (I think in the old slax's forum) , the revenue from ads is negligble , and he rather maintained an ad free status . I think he feel that slax's forum looks better without ads.
But if someone offers say a free ipad or some high tech gizmo I think he can "rethink" . I recalled he mentioned he loves his netbooks , so some high tech gizmo /toys should be most welcome.

lydia622520 is another profile i just removed three posts from. These ads were for imacs ... at least these morons should target their spam ... otherwise it's more like 'spiced ice cream' ... nobody will touch it except to throw it out.
