Slax is to old now to handle newest things ...

Use Porteus instead waiting Slax 7 !

http://porteus.org/

32 bit version :

64 bit version :

The Xfce versions are really good !

Choose 32 bit or 64 bits, then select "Download" (on the right hand side).

@ Dakara ... inside the /current directory you will find porteus-xxx.iso files, choose either 32bit or 64bit depending on your computer. 32bit will work on either.

Porteus does not offer the equivalent of Slax's zip file download, which is a shame with many modern puters coming without an optical drive. If you want to make a usb version you'll have to either first make the cd version [to get access to the files inside the .iso] or else open the iso with an iso editor program. Or you can open the iso with a virtual cdrom app on windows. I think that current versions of the 7zip app will open an iso file.

Once you can see inside the iso, then just copy the /boot and /Porteus directories to your usbstick, then follow the instructions at the download site to make it bootable.

Just use isomaster under Slax or Porteus to extract the Porteus ISO to your bootable ext2 part (use gparted here :) ) usb flash media ...

Then use extlinux to install it to mbr!

That's the way i do it with Slax since 2006! Never felt.

Use the save.dat container (I think Porteus still has it now, not sure) to save your changes. There's plenty of Porteus documentation that's been written to do this. If I can say one thing, though--Porteus, in a manner of speaking, changed how Linux Live views saving changes to FAT drives--I wish the team kept this functionality, but changes on FAT drives do corrupt quite easily.
