I recently bought a MSI U100 Wind notenook and I tried to run Slax on it but with no success.
The boot process stops for about 2-3 minutes at the following step: "Triggering udev events: /sbin/udevtrigger". After this pause it stops for good when displaying: "Module dependencies up to date (no new kernel modules found)".
I've tried to run a fresh Slax 6.0.7 distro, both from an USB stick and an SD memory card, each time with the same result.
parrothead:
On my Compaq M700 laptop, SLAX paused for a long time at the udevtrigger line as well, and I was able to get around it by going into the BIOS and turning off support for the floppy drive. It did not have a floppy drive anyway, but was apparently waiting for one to respond.

Any ideeas?
The kernel for the MSI Wind with slax 6.0.7 fouls up with the kernel module r8169.ko at the point you describe above. This means the ethernet driver does not load.
In order to get slax 6.0.7 to boot you have to blacklist the kernel module r8169 in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf. Add a line like this: blacklist r8169
You can create this file and add it as a module on a USB stick.
The ethernet fix is in later kernels so you may have to wait for a slax update with a later kernel.
In the mean time you can build the wifi driver see the msiwind.net site for the driver.
I am patient and will wait for the next slax update.
4. Extract grldr & menu.lst from grub4dos-0.4.3.zip(use winrar) to your local drive (c:\)
5. Change or modify or edit the file menu.lst.
Replace it with this:

Migan, can you please explain how you managed to configure WiFi on MSI Wind?
I am running slax from usb flash drive and all my distros are default. What should i do?
Found the right way, posting in case someone else would have the same problem. How to install wifi card drivers on MSI Wind
1. Download the driver file from http://code.google.com/p/msi-wind-linux/downloads/detail?name=rtl8187se_linux-04.tar.bz2&can=2&q=
2. Unpack the archive to 'rtl8187se_coffee' dir.
3. Build and load driver (in terminal):
cd rtl8187se_coffee
./makedrv
./wlan0 down
./wlan0 up
./install
I am a complete newbie in bash, but it seemes to have worked for me :)
The driver and installation instructions are from http://code.google.com/p/msi-wind-linux/
Excellent! Thanks for the update Thomas, 6.0.9 runs smoothly on MSI U100 Netbook.
I did manage to dual boot too, with slight modification from Migan's menu.lst. That is changing the 'hda(0,0)' to 'hda(0,1)', as hda(0,0) is MSI's recovery partition and I didn't remove that partition.
One thing I notice is the clicking sound my netbook makes every now and then. It sounds like the harddisk, but just a single click. I'm pretty sure it's the harddisk, since I don't think there're any other moving parts, but I'm no expert in this area, just a guess. Does this happen to anyone else?

Actually this is the ONLY solution which actually worked out for me.
After installing the driver I could search for available wireless networks using the KWiFiManager. Unfortunately, I could not connect to WEP or WPA protected networks. So I downloaded an additional slax module named Wireless Assistant, and it immediately worked perfectly! Now I can fully enjoy the slax distro on my MSI Wind U100!
Slax current version 6.1.1 works fine for 3 weeks in my msi wind netbook... the only problem i have is my printer (brother dcp-130c) won't work in slax...
If they stated "paperweight" mean at the moment there is no hope for linux printing for your printer, but this may change in the future.
But there is a work around to use the printer . Is it a usb printer?. If so you can use virtual box on slax . Install window xp and the window printer driver (I assumed the printer came with window driver cd or floppy ) to a created virtual disk inside virtual box.
So each time you want to print within slax , start virtual box and windox xp (installed to virtual box) and print within window.
This work provided you have usb support within virtual box . You can check by installing virtual box and see if you can see you usb devices. I never did this as all the while the printer I used can print in slax but I used to have a usb scanner that is not supported in linux , so I used it within window xp install inside a virtual hard disk in virtual box.

Can someone help me, I'm trying to get Wifi working following the above on 6.1.2 but whenever I get to ./wlan0down
I get this: root@slax:~/rtl8187se_coffee# ./wlan0down

ERROR: Module r8180 does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_ccmp_rtl does not exist in /proc/modules

With apologies for polluting the slax forum with non-slax url's :-)
The problem you mention with the
[code]
root@slax:~/rtl8187se_coffee# ./wlan0down

Hello...I have been having a go at getting Slax 6 to run on a MSI Wind U100...It runs OK from the USB-Stick and also from an SD card. However I also have no wlan OR ethernet. I see that there are many work arounds and fixes written here which are probably very helpful, but would it not be easier to post a Slax build with all the necessary fixes especially for the U100 wind ?..... I mean I would appreciate it !.
I have also used the same USB stick in my main desktop computer and ethernet works fine from standard which is great and exactly what I wanted...a system where I can move my stick from computer to computer and use my operating system.
People like me who lack both experience and worst of all time would definately benefit from a post like this.
My worry is always if I make a change will I screw it up even more and have to start all over again.
So if anyone can upload a working Slax 6.1.2 already configured for a Wind U100 that would be really super.
cd rtl8187se_coffee
./makedrv
./wlan0 up
./install
write to new windows terminal
iwconfig
next
ifcofing wlan0 up
next
iwlist scan
run application set IP addres (network-conf)|Kmenu->networks->set IP addres (network-conf)
Enter the IP address
Subnet mask
Default gateway
Default dns
Save Settings
come back to terminal window
write
iwconfig wlan0 essid xxx -your wireless network
