Imagemagick 6.7.7 + Dependencies (Deleted On 21/04/2013)
Module No 05 - Image Processing (Command Line Tool)

It's a command line tool .It's a collection of programmes /scripts. Opening a console and typing imagemagick does nothing! :). You have to type one of the valid command. It's powerful but you do need to read the manual , at least for the basic command that you used. There is documentation in html form in the imagemagick.sb.

You can test from a console by typing some basic command , eg convert or mogrify

Eg to split a two page jpg scan into two equal pages vertically
mogrify -crop 50%x100% *.jpg

Eg To resize image
mogrify -resize 600x800 *.*

Eg To trim white edge around pdf
mogrify -fuzz 15% -bordercolor white -trim *.pdf

Eg To convert jpg to pdf
convert *.jpg PdfNewName.pdf

Module 6 : Yagf + Tesseract + Aspell English Dictionary
Yagf -Yet Another Gui Front End -Gui front end for Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Scanning
Tesseract -Command line OCR Engine
Xsane + Sane - See Module 4 above -You need the whole lot as Yagf use Xsane+Sane for the actual scanning.
Aspell -En -Aspell English Dictionary.
For other language :-
http://slackfind.net/en/packages/search/?name=aspell&distversion=

Yagf can make use of Tesseract or Cuneiform OCR engine . I separated Cuneiform as it has many dependencies so those who intend to use Tesseract only , don't need to download Cuneiform+Dependencies.

Xsane appear in the menu under Graphic.
No sign of Yagf in the menu. Open a console and type yagf.
You can also run Tesseract from a console , just type tesseract.
With Yagf you can figure how to scan /do ocr without reading any manual . I didn;t check to see what documentation is available.

Module 9: SANE 1.022 + KSANE PLUGIN 4.8.5 +SKANLITE 0.7 (Scanner Software -Image Scan Only)

This is an alternative to Module 4(SANE+XSANE)& 13 (SANE+SKANLITE)

Sane -Scannner Access Now Easy .
Ksane -Plugin to Sane
Skanlite -Front end to Sane

Advantage over Sane+Xsane (Module 4)
(1) Simple interface for those who are overwhelm by Xsane (with it's floating window old gimp style)

Disadvantage
(1) Image scan only (Xsane can scan lineart/text , grey/graphic and colour) ).
(2) Cannot save in pdf (xsane can save in pdf)
(3) Very much less options (but most casual users won't use the detailed tweaks).

It's just a rename of Porteus.xzm to Slax 7.sb but it work , but obviously sb format is not supported.
It's an older version as I haven't check out / try the newer version:

It create a menu entry dnd-unzip in Utiliy , or you can open a console and type dnd-unzip.

Module No 11 : Peazip 4.8 (Gui File Unzipper /File Extractor) -Update to 4.9 (16/03/2013)

Note Slax 7 already includes Ark File Extractor.
Basically I still keep Peazip handy as there are instances where Ark failed and Peazip worked.

Actually in Slax 6 , I mostly use Ratata Service Menu and TB Add On. These are Kommander scripts (or at least I think so). Basically, both of them add a whole bunch of additional functionsso that when I right click a file with Konquorer or Krusader file manager , I can extract , compress , make lzm etc.I suppose a rewrite will make them work in Slax 7 , but for the moment they are part of the missing user friendly add on in Slax 7.

Menu entry for Peazip in Utility , or you can open a console and type peazip.

Dolphin file manager have a very basic option to rename a batch of files with running number , but it's very basic.

Module 13: SANE 1.022 + SIMPLE-SCAN 2.32 (Scanner Software -Image & Text Scan Only)

This is an alternative to Module (SANE+XSANE)(Module 4) & (SANE+SKANLITE)(Module 9)

Sane -Scannner Access Now Easy .
Simple-Scan -Front End

Advantage over Sane+Xsane (Module 4)
(1) Simple interface for those who are overwhelm by Xsane (with it's floating window old gimp style)

Disadvantage
(1) Text & Image scan only. No colour Scan (Xsane can scan lineart/text , grey/graphic and colour) ).
(2) Save in pdf for text and jpeg for image . No option to choose file save format.(This is better than Skanlite)

(3) Very much less options (but most casual users won't use the detailed tweaks).

It has one percular behaviour , you can scan multiple pages for eg page one in text , page two in image , but it save everything based on the last scan . In the above example it save in jpg as the second page is an image scan.

Need :
Module 4 (Sane + Xsane)
Everything EXCEPT Xsane ,libgimp & libeee

No modification.

Menu entry Simple-Scan under Graphic
From a console type simple-scan (If no menu entry appear).
Your scanner must be supported by sane.At times firmware may be required.

NOTE : The bundle is working but with Canonlide 100 at times it have difficulty initialising the scanner. On average I have to open and close 4 or 5 times before the scanner run.

I have similar problem with sane+xsane but usually , I only need to close and reopen once only for the scanner to run.

Module 14: Kshutdown 3.0 Beta 5 (Computer Shutdown Utility) -removed on 21/01/2013

It will shut down your computer at the time you set. This is useful , for eg , you are downloading some files and the download is expected to finish latest within the next two hours , and you wishs to go to sleep . Just use kshutdown and set shutdown in three hours (allow extra 1 hour in case the download rate is slower than expected).

There is a "do nothing" option" to test. When the shutdown time is reach , it will sound the alarm , but doesn't actually do a shutdown.

Module 16: Scantailor -0.9.11.1 (Post Processing Of Scan Images)

It allows you to post process your image scans to fix , Orientation , Split Pages (eg with double page scans), Desckew (meaning you images are not align vertically and you can re-align) ,Select Content and Set Margin .
If you merely wish to split a two page scans into two equal parts without really caring on the exact split position , then it way faster just to use Imagemagick (Module 5).

Scantailor forces you to go thru all the steps even if you only want to split the pages. It also produce output as tiff files which are huge in size .(You can use ImageMagick to convert from tiff to jpg or bmp ir png etc.

Scantailor appear in the Menu under Graphic , or you can open a console and type scantailor.

Module 17: Converseen 0.5.2 (GUI Batch Image Converter)

It's a front end for ImageMagick (Module 5) which is a command line image processor. Other than converting between file format , it can resize , change resolution etc.

It need the Entire Module 5 and all it's dependencies.
So Basically it is Converseen_+ImageMagick+ImageMagick Dependencies

It's kind of unstable and is prone to crash and I only tested with 3 images only . So you need to find out your self how it will behave with larger number of images. Resizing doesn't work . It will crash everytime. Sheesh...

Converseen appears in the Menu under Graphic , or you can open a console and type converseen.

Edit: 24/01/2013 -Krusader 2.40 Beta already in Slax &'s Module Repository:
http://www.slax.org/en/modules.php?detail=krusader

Module No 19: Krusader 2.0.0 (Twin Pane File manager)

I used to consider this the crown jewel in kde. If I burn a slax iso to cd for rescue/boot up cd etc, even if I didn't add any modules , there will be at least a Krusader module.

I would navigate using Krusader as Konqueror kind of sucks , and who wants to navigate from a terminal . It like going back to the day of Dos. Just navigate via Krusader to whereever you need to be , from the menu , open terminal here and drop into the console,

It also integrates well with other kde apps and utilities apearing as an option /user actions in it's menu.7

Well no more , Dolphin file manager in Slax proving "Krusader like " with many of it's features , so I find myself using Dolphin rather than Krusader in Slax 7 . Slax 7 not mounting media in /mnt broke Krusader mountman (mounting and unmounting option).

You need to create link to your actual partitions , say in /mnt or / ,and name them say sda1 ,sda2 etc , and use that to navigate Krusader , otherwise you are stuck with navigating using folders with long cryptic names.

Compare to Dolphin:-
Krusader extra over Dolphin
(a) You can click on an iso to open and view inside , copy files etc . This is useful to install manually from the iso without having to burn the iso. Dolphin can't open iso,

Dolphin extra over Krusader
(a) Places on the left side of Dolphin. For folders that you use regularly in Dolphin , you can add them as Places to the left side of the menu. Just click in the Place added to go to the said folder. This is a feature missing from Krusader.

All bundles are mere conversion using txz2sb from files from:- http://slackfind.net/en
No modification.

Module No 20: Double Commander 0.5.4 (Doublecmd) (Twin Pane File Manager)

It's suppose to be a linux take of File Commander (Twin Pane File Manager - Window application). Been used to Krusader in linux , when I have to use window , I will use File Commander.

I haven't use Double Commander /Doublecmd enough to form an opinion of it . It's doesn't relys on KDE . I first came across it in Porteus 1,2 which upgrade from the last kde version 3.5xx to Trinity . Trinity broke kde application . Krusader can't run on it.

Doublecmd appears in the Menu under System , or you can open a console and type doublecmd.

Module No 21: Geeqie 1.10 (Multipanes Image Viewver). Removed on 21/03/2013.

It's a fork of gqview . Since Slax 7 already gwenview , do you really need another image viewer. Well , Geeqie have one feature that I do not know if exist in other image viewer (If you do , please post).ie it can have multi panels. You can split the viewing window vertically or horizontally or both , meaning you can have two or four viewing panels.

For eg if you split vertically , you can open the original image on one side and the post processing image (assuming you did some image processing) on the other side , to visual compare the results. For this feature alone Geeqie is worth a mentioned.

Geeqie appears in the Menu under Graphics , or you can open a console and type geeqie.

See Module 64 below : Mobi Thesaurus (use inconjunction with Golden Dictionary) (With option to add Sound Dictionary to Golden Dictionary)
See Module No 79 below (Mdic dictionary +Espeak Tss for sound)

Stardict is most probably the most popular linux offline dictionary , but it have copyright issues with the dictionaries used.

The Wordnet diction is not copyleft but is copyright by Princeton University and is licence (subject to their term) for use and distribution . See licence.txt.

You need the GoldenDict+Hunspell + at least one Dictionary (which you need to add). It already link to Wikipedia Dictionary (You can link more).

Th Us_En_ Morphology is optional , but the GoldenDict site itsell sugest it gives "better stems for search whatever".
"Linux users: Linux versions usually come without morphology files. You can use system myspell/hunspell files, but there are better versions with more stems available specially for GoldenDict.

Morphology thingy /whatever : http://sourceforge.net/projects/goldendict/files/better%20morphologies/1.0/

YOU NEED TO DO:-

(a) Extract Wordnet some where .
From the Menu
Edit Dictionary Source Tab Click Add Button Navigate to the folder where you save Wordnet (or other Dictionary)
(b) The selected Dictionary will appear in the Dictionary Tab , Select it /check box,
(c) Click Rescan now to index the Dictionary.

(a1) Optional -If you add the Morphology
Extract Morphology to somewhere.
(b1)From the Menu
Edit Dictionary Morphology Tab Change , Browse to where the Morphology folder is
Select

I didn't try it , but I would guess if you do not want to extract the Dic & Morphology bundle , you can add them by selecting /mnt/live/memory/bundle ?

There is no menu entry. From a console type goldendict.

Module No 23: KBOOKOCR 2.1 (Optical Character Recognition Front End)

(KBOOKOCR+SANE+CUNEIFORM+ASPELL+ASPELL DICTIONARY (EN) )(YOU NEED TO ADD IMAGEMAGICK -ALL)

It's specialty seem to be actually it's ability to read from pdj and djvu format and perform ocr on them and produce the output in html. It is like a pdf /djvu to html converter. It can also scan using xsane and perform ocr. The ocr engine used is Cuneiform.

Summary

KOCR Front End to Sane
SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy) - The actual scanner /database programme. (NO need xsane as kocr is the front end)
CUNEIFORM -OCR engine
IMAGEMAGICK -all inc all dependencies (Image procesing software)

What you need
KOCR -all
Sane+Dependencies -almost all
Cuneiform+Dependencies all
ImageMagick + Dependencies all
Aspell +Aspell Dictionary (for specific language) -Only Aspell En (English is included).
Djvulibre (optional) -Only required if you load image from djvu file format.

To avoid confusion I uploaded all the files in KOCR folder except for IMAGEMAGICK (Module No 5)

Module No 36 Simple Burn 1.6.5 (CD /DVD Burner Software)

Unlike in Slax 6 , Slax 7 doesn't comes with K3B (which in my opinion is one of KDE's crown jewel together with Krusader Fila Manager. I associates this two programme with Kde).

Simpleburn is simpler (read less options ans control) cd/dvd burner. I tested it by burning and booting the burn iso.

For eg when burn the iso , you just get to burn it , unlike in kde you are given a choice to choose from the speed (of burning) of which your cd/dvd is capable off.

It's a simplicity vs choice/control trade off.

Module No 37 : Kback up 0.8 (Back up Software)

I used to use DAR+KDAR to back up till slax 6 . Then I realised portable hard disk is relatively cheap and Slax data (/changes folder of slaxsav.dat) is small and even my own data can fit a cd/dvd . So I stop using any back up software and just manually copy the entire folders that I want to back up. I don't even bother to compress it on anything.

Of course I learned which folders or files need not be back up as slax will just recreate then at each reboot.

Kbackup is a backup software . As in any back up software , you can select in detail , what of which folder to back up. I only tested it by backing up a single folder.

Module No 48 : SoPdf (Pdf Processing)(With Specific For Ereader / Tablet)

Caution : This is a fan for fan sofware. So use at your own risk . I have use it many times.
To make a long story short.
(a) Some one (theGuru) make the original sopdf window version:-
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32066
(b) Then some one else (frabjous) says "what no gui" and make a window gui. (02/03/2009)
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32066&page=5
(c) And yet some one else (nathan) make a window gui (pehaps not knowing it had been done) (31/12/2009)
(d) And then came the linux 64bits version (frabjous)(31/12/2009)
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67739
(e) Finally frabjous use nathan gui and make a linux 32bits version. (29/04/2010).
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67739&page=3

This is what is included in this bundle -the linux 32bits version -There is two files . I just put it into /usr/bin and use dir2sb to make a bundle.

SoPdf is a pdf procesing of pdf to pdf converter:-
Some options:-
(a) Trim white space (margin) around PDF
(b) Cut pdf page horizontally into top and bottom parts.
(c) Cut pdf vertically into left and right parts and rotating it into landscape mode.
(d) Specify % of overlap between the parts.

The questions is why ?
Mainly it's for Ereader and Tablet where the viewing /screen area is a premium.
For eg , removing the white space /margin , reduced wasted space and the readable /viewing page can be enlarged to fit the screen.

The same with cutting the page into two parts . Each part can be view as a larger page on screen. For smaller ereader /tablet (below 10inches) this nay help make the wording larger and more readable.

That what is included in this bundle . I just extract the tar.bz2 and put the two files in /usr/bin and make a bundle using dir2sb.

There is no menu entry:
From a console type:-
(a) sopdf for command line version which have more options.
(b)sopdf_gui (I rename /shorten the name) for the gui version with less options.

IMPORTANT : CHECK THE PROCESS WITH ERROR OPTION to force sopdf to continue processing even with error .Other it usually fail. The input filename.pdf is not overwritten and is the output is filename_output.pdf is place in the same folder as the input file.

Module No 49: Briss 0.9 (PDF processing /Extraction) (Java jar programme)

Basically is allow user to extract portions from a pdf page by selecting a rectangle. For multi pages pdf (as in most case) , you can batch select the left /odd numbered page and right /even numbered page separately.
Batch selection is only useful is the pages are almost similar in layout.

Where single page pdf with many sub panels/ groups of data are encountered , user can manually select each block of data , one by one. Eah extracted block will become a new single page.

Input and output are in pdf form only .The output will not overide the original file but will be renamed.

Dear JCSOH, (I really prefer to call your name instead;) )

Please accept my apology about 4shared issue, I migrated to mediafire and new modules are uploaded there.
Pleased to hear that you liked k3b, as you know libnepomux does not exist in reality! as you see "mds" at the end of MarkDS means that it is kind of customized library made of 3 rpms:
libnepomukutils4, libnepomukquery4, libnepomuk4

I read your challenge with Manfred, It is really chilling to see Great Kudos like him and even MarkDS are getting busy these days to that extend that even they barely give hints to newbies like me :s
As a musician I need tuxmusic and his reply was confusing to me. I got oraclejdk rpm but it was really strange and there was no way for me to trouble shoot it with my basic trial and error method.

based on aikausaurus post you made before I found http://packages.debian.org and there were lots of interesting items there that I prepared few of them here.

>> Bangarang 1.0.1 (i386)
As you know this is default qt based media player of kde, I found it really simple but responsive.

>> XFBurn 0.4.3 (i386)
This is default Disk burner for XFCE which is very lightweight but strong in its scales ;)
http://www.mediafire.com/?iu5m1z85inwds0g

>> Fraqtive 0.4.5 (i386)
A very interesting and yet simple fractal drawer, even If you do not know that much about the base mathematical issue it can create simple brain frying fractals.

jcsoh wrote:
"As a musician I need tuxmusic and his reply was confusing to me. "
I think he was refering to the openjdk , that they no longer allow it to be distributed directly.
Some software are free to use , but the owner want to control and track it's usage , so they will specify , it cannot be distibuted directly , or mirrored elsewhere . Meanin g the only way to get it , is to don't load from they approved site . I guess this way they can keep track or even make you register to download..

Thanks, I did not know that. It is something like Adobe Flash, however I can see that it is already installed on firefox.

(b) Go to folder where it is save , opena console and type

(c) It install
(d) Go inside the folder nad click the Tuxguitar (script) . It open and run.

The rest mentioned requiring java run time (jre) (Nothing about JDK).

Module No 61: Recoll 1.18.1 (File IndexingText Search Tool)

Recoll is a text search tool for Unix and Linux desktops. For eg if a few month back you wrote a letter to John Doe , but you can't recalled where you save it , you can search "John Doe" and limit the search to letter only or search all.

Upon first start up , you have to do the file /hard disk indexing.
Use the Index configuration . Here you can set exactly which partition of folders to index.

(A) REQUIRED FILES (Put in Base Folder)
Recoll + LibXapian (Xapian is the database library)

(B) BASE OPTIONAL (Put in Base Optional Folder)

Aspel _ Aspell EN (Aspell english dictionary)(If you are indexing in other language , you can add the other language dictionary).

This is compulsory . Infact I think it is broken as I alway get a :Can't bull aspell dictinary " message.
From the Index configuration , you can opt to turn on Aspell.

Aspell seems to have a minimal use in recoll.
Read this:-
http://www.freelists.org/post/recoll-user/Using-directories-in-queries,5

DEPENDENCIES - FILE HELPERS

WHAT IS REQUIRED IS BASED ON THE TYPE OF FILES /FORMAT THAT YOU WISH TO INDEX
You can omit all but than recoll will be able to index some native files only:-

File types indexed natively

text. html. maildir and mailbox ( Mozilla, Thunderbird and Evolution mail ok).
gaim and purple log files.Scribus files. Man pages (needs groff). Dia diagrams.

Read the text file included to know which files is for what file format:-

Recol_Helper_File_Format_Simplified.txt
Recol_Helper_FilelFormat.txt

Since there are lot (and I do mean A LOT) of files , they are put into
Helper Files Folder
(a) Subfolder Common (MS Office /OpenOffice /PDF etc)
(b) Subfolder Less Commom (Djvulibre , Lyx , Wordperfect).

A little bit of reading will help you understand Recoll better:-
Home page: http://www.lesbonscomptes.com/recoll/
Manual : http://www.lesbonscomptes.com/recoll/usermanual/index.html

After the indexing is complete , click Help
(a) Show Missing Helper
This will list out the missing helper files , for eg if the index found wordperfect files , but you have not added the required helper files , then it will be listed here.
(b) Show Index Type -Here it will list out the files format supported and indexed based on the helper files you added and file formats found. For eg ms word , pdf , text etc.

Recoll appear in the Menu under Utilities , or open a console and type recoll.

In slax this how we will run java programme . You just extract the file to a folder , and run the executable .
This is because jave is not a native linux programme and run using it's own java run time , which is why it is cross platform . You can run the same programme in window etc.

How am I supposed to extract the downloaded file? ark can not recognize the decoder correctly and asks me to choose it manually.

Get From: http://www.mediafire.com/?v22eokacu9382 (Note I put it in the same folder as Golden Dictionary).

Note : You can also add a sound dictionary to Golden Dictionary. However , the source is indirectly from the same person /creator of stardict dictionary programme (which was remove from sourgeforge due to concerns about copyright issue on the dictonary used (not on the stardict programme itself)).

Due to doubts as to the sound dictionary copyright , I won't host it.

Just download and extract to somewhere .IN Golden Dictionary Add Sound Dictionary and select location where you extract it.

The sound files are merely sound wav files arrange in alphabetical folder (a to z) , so you can infact manually select a corresponding sound file and click to play it.

Ffmpeg is a commandline only audio video converter supporting many formats.
http://ffmpeg.org/

WinFF provide a Gui interface (It is not necessary if you are willing to run ffmpeg from a console.
http://winff.org/html_new/

Slax's principle in making modules is to keep each library files /dependencies separately to avoid different modules sharing the smae dependencies from having within each module , the same/shared dependencies. This is a sound concept , but sometime you end up with a ridiculous amount of dependency files (14 in this case).

So I bundles 10 of the less common dependencies into a bu, ndle , while leavin faac, lame , xvidcore and sdl separately.

To run ffmpeg , open a console and type ffmpeg.
To use WinFF , it appear in th emenu under Multimedia , or open a console and type winff.

I only tested by converting an aif sound file to wav (that's what I needed ffmpeg for in the first place).

Module No 69 : Recite Word 0.8.5.1 (Sound Dictionary /Sound Pronouciation) / (Reciting /Rote Learning English Words)

This module comes in two parts (my own division):
(a) For "English " meaning all those who don't read chinese .
(b) For "Chinese " meaning those who read chinese.

Basically Recite Word is intended for chinese speaking user who want to learn english :-
(a) Recite /rote learning english words with
(a1) English -Chinese Dictionary
(a2) Educational language learning books (my presumptions since I can't read chinese , and my computer can't display chinese).

(b) Hear how the english words /sentence are pronounce

So for English use , the function is limited to (b) ie as a sound dictionary.
The word dictionary is a misnomer as you don't get a word defination but only the pronounciation.
Type cat the programme speak out cat.
Type I go to school , it speak out the sentence.
Type la la la lu lu lu , well it sign !
Type a sentence or word backwork ! I didn't try . It might b low out the speaker

Bundle 000 is the same for both except the defaul wall paper is in chinese or english.
Bundle 002,003 and 004 is the same.
Bundle 005 and 006 are books and dictionary in chinese.
Bundle 007 in chine rw wall paper. The default wall paper in chinese bsd. It will start by default with bsd but offer as an option rw chinese and rw english wall paper. It put the rw english wall paper as the default bsd wall paper in the english bundle.

Read the Readme_1st.txt file as in my case I need to do esd -d hw:0 to activate sound chip.
Type esd -h to see your available sound device.

Home Page:
http://reciteword.sourceforge.net/index_en.html

You need the sound dictionary ( WyabdcRealPeopleTTS.):

However , the source is indirectly from the same person /creator of stardict dictionary programme (which was remove from sourgeforge due to concerns about copyright issue on the dictonary used (not on the stardict programme itself)).

Due to doubts as to the sound dictionary copyright , I won't host it.
The link is here ( WyabdcRealPeopleTTS.tar.bz2 ):-
http://code.google.com/p/stardict-3/downloads/list

You have to download the sound dictionary , extract it somewhere then use dir2sb to make it into a slax bundle.

Or rpm2tgz , tgz2sb , if you download the rpm package.

Initially , I thought the programme will only be able to pronunce the words available in the dictionary (if you extract the dictionary , it is jus wav files in alphabetical named folders), but it actually try to read what you type.

Typing cat , caat , caaaaat and see how it try !.

Edit :13/02/2013 -Espeakdata already inc. inside the Espeak bundle).
Edit: 02/02/2013 -Added 3 US English , Chinese , Indonesia Malay and Malaysian Malay Mbrola Voice.
(Malaysia marked as not working because Espeak data doeesn't include malaysian malay)

Module No 70 : ESpeak 1.45 (Voice Synthetiser /Text To Speech) & JSpeak-Master Front End (Java jar)
(ESpeak Data Include Multi Languages. Mbrola include English only.).
(See Module 74 below with Espeak-tssgui as an alternative front end)
(See Module 75 below with Festival /Egolos )
(See Module 78 SvoxPico /Pico2wave/PicoSpeaker below)
(See Module 81 Flite below)

(A) ESPEAK -COMMAND LINE
Home: http://espeak.sourceforge.net/

Main Programme -Espeak , which is a command line voice synthetiser /text to speech.
Espeak Data is Espeak languages / voices data . It support multiple languages/voices.(Espeak data is already included inside the Espe
Portaudio is a dependency.ak bundle)

To run Espeak from the commandline , you need the 2 files only.
Just activating the bundle may not work. It is beast to reboot (yeah I know it remind me of the other os. You know which one).

All command from console:-
espeak "Hello" to test and say hello .Make it sing espeak "la la la lu la mi mi"
espeak --voices to see the languages /voices available.
espeak -ven , where v = voice & en = english/default
espeak -vde where de = german etc

If you have a text file named sample.txt, then open a console where the text file is

espeak -ven -f sample.txt , where ven=english voice -f= to read sample.txt.

(B) JSpeak-Master a java.jar front end
The ideal front end for Espeak is GESpeaker but I am unable to resolved it's dependency issues, so for the time being , JSpeak-Master is an option.

Home: https://github.com/BullShark/JSpeak

Since it is a java.jar , you need the java jre bundle (Module No 32).
The programme work by monitoring the clipboard. For eg, once you start it to monitor the clipboard , it will capture and speak any text you copy into the clipboard. For eg to read the sample.txt in (A) above , open the file ,copy a portion of the text , and JSpeak will read it out.

In this bundle Jspeak only comes with english support . The default voice is EN (from espeak). There is a second option voice of EN1 (from Mbrola). I haven't quite figure out Mbrola but basically it is like the Espeak data with multi language data /voices , but it doesn't include a synthetisersynthetiser pro ,so need another programme as the synthetiser.

Basically , anything you can copy and paste into the clipboard , will be read out . Anything ! . If you use a file manager to copy a file to paste it somewhere , the filename will be read out !

C) MBROLA (NEED FOR JSPEAK-MASTER ONLY) (At the moment)( as Espeak can also make use Mbrola language data /voices .This is still need some extra work)

When reading up on Mbrola , the impression I get it that it will provide a more natural voice.
Right now:
Espeak -EN = English UK
Mbrola EN1 voice = Think StarWars R2D2 , C3P0 or DarthVader (If you don't know these 3 , you are on the wrong universe !).

To run JSpeak-Master, open a console and type

jspeak.sh

(I am still trying for an Espeak+GESpeaker+Mbrola combination.)

Module No 73 : PosteRazor (/ Poster Image Splitter)

Notwithstanding it's name , it actually split images into specified parts , although the developer had in mind , you use it to split downloaded posters into parts for printing.

It's diffrence with Map splitter (Module No 72) above, lies in the way it splits the image. In map splitter (presumably because the maps can be very large size) the users specified the page size say A4 , and the programme will calculate the numbers of part to split to.

In Poster razor you get an oncreen preview , and get to choose the size and how to split the width and height (rather than specifies number of overall part)(Presumably because the poster are smaller than the overall size) . In use a 5 steps wizard approach which is straight foward and easy to understand.
There is no manual or help . but it's quite easy , with a bit of tinkering , you should be able to figure it out.

Editted -13/02/2013 -EspeakData already included inside Espeak bundle.
Module No 74 : ESpeak 1.45 (Voice Synthetiser /Text To Speech) & Espeak-tssgui Front End
(ESpeak Data Include Multi Languages.)(No Mbrola as Espeak-tssgui make use of voices with Epeak Data only).
(See Module 70 above with JSpeaker-Master as an alternative front end)
(See Module 75 below with Festival /Egolos )
(See Module 78 SvoxPico /Pico2wave/PicoSpeaker below)
(See Module 81 Flite below)

(A) ESPEAK -COMMAND LINE
Home: http://espeak.sourceforge.net/

Main Programme -Espeak , which is a command line voice synthetiser /text to speech.
Espeak Data is Espeak languages / voices data . It support multiple languages/voices.(it's already included inside the Espeak bundle).
Portaudio is a dependency.

(B) Espeak-tssgui front end
The ideal front end for Espeak is GESpeaker but I am unable to resolved it's dependency issues, so for the time being , Espeak-tssgui is an option.Note Espeak-tssgui and Espeak-Gui is not the same.

Espeak-tssgui provide a gui window from which you can set the voice volume ,pitch and word per minute , select voice , open a text file (the text file must be named with a txt extension) or directly type or copy and paste text to be spoken.

To run Espeak-tssgui, open a console and type

espeak-tssgui

Module No 75 : Festival 2.1 (Voice Synthetiser /Text To Speech) & Egolos 0.2-1 Front End
(See Module 70 & 74 Espeak options)
(See Module 78 SvoxPico /Pico2wave/PicoSpeaker below)
(See Module 81 Flite below)

(A) Festival -Commandline
Home: http://www.cstr.ed.ac.uk/projects/festival/
Read Readme1st.txt for various commandline options.
Note : No extra voices added as Egolos "possibly " don't use it. Egolos is in Russian , so I can't explore it much as I don't read russian.

Start from a console , type
festival

The prompt will change to festival>
All command must be entered through this console (with festival> prompt)

festival> (voice.list) to show available voices.
(voice_rab_diphone) to select a voice (rab_diphone)
(SayText "Hello from Slax 7") to speak out "Hello from slax 7"
(tts "Text.txt" nil) to read out from a text file named Text.txt

(B) Egolos Russian Front End
Start from a console , type
eGolos

Although it is in russian , it's easy to use without knowing russian so long as you stick with the basic . You only need to know (and remember) 4 menu options , and they are all at the corners.

(A) Voice Selection -Upper Right Corner
Click on the drop down box button .The default voice is russian.
For english
voice_rab_diphone A British English male RP speaker,
voice_ked_diphone An American English male speaker,

(B) Speak It (To speak out /read out) -Lower Right Corner

(c) Upper Left Corner -Left most /1st Menu Item
Click on it to open a drop down menu
(c1) 1st Menu Item - Clear the text box

When eGolos starts , the text box will shows some code - this should be the current default voice and settings. Instead of using the above menu (c1) , you can in fact just delete /clear the text box , and type in the "text" to be spoken. Then click (B) to speak /read it.

(c) Upper Left Corner -Left most /1st Menu Item
Click on it to open a drop down menu
(c2) 2nd Menu Item - Open Text File. It will open Dolphin file manager and allows you to navigate to where you text file is , select it. The text will appear in the text box.
Then click (B) to speak /read it.

The other unknown menu items (since I don't read russian) maybe options to change pitch , speed , spacing between words etc .

CAUTION
Festival can't speak the following punctuation mark . It will just spell it out .

Eg It can read out church or people but not church's or people's. It will spell out each alphabet instead for eg "c" "h" "u" "r' "c" "h" "s".

Module No 76 : Text2Audio (Shell Script /Command Line Only)

Homepage: http://taggedzi.com/page/display/text2audio-shell-script-for-linux?/text2audio.php
Basically it convert files to audio using shell script ,Festival and Sox.
Input Files : text , pdf , html , ms doc (chm -I didn't manage to get this working)
Output Files : aif , ogg , flag , mp3 (This are the only one I tested as there is a lot of choices)

Instruction
Extract the Text2Audio.zip.
Go inside the Text2Audio folder, and run the script
(a) Type ./text2audio.sh - to get help /instruction

Basically ./text2audio.sh -l (length_of_audio_file) -f (format_of_output) i (input_file)
To make things easier put the file you want to convert inside the /Text2Audio folder.

Eg MyDoc.pdf to convert to mp3 format and you want the audio files to be in a maximum of 5 minutes segments.

Then type

./text2audio.sh -l 5 -f mp3 -i MyDoc.pdf

By default the confirmation mode is on , the script will sumarised and list out your instruction , read carefully and PRESS ENTER TP PROCEED OR CTRL-C (control key and C key together) TO ABORT
be place here
The script will create 3 subfolders inside /Text2Audio folder
/audio -This is where the final audio files (numbered in sequence) be placed.
/done -The converted text file is place here (if any) . If the programme convert the format to text first , then the text version of the input file be placed here.
/split -This is where when splitting the file.

You need : Text2Audio.zip , Festival , Sox and Libsox.
Input Files -I renamed the files so that at the end of the file name the supported format is named in capital letter , for eg Antiword_MSDOC.sb .This mean it is needed only if your input file is in MS Doc format.

Output Files - The same as in input file. Except for the aif format .After doing the ogg , flag and mp3 format , aif format is available but I don't know from which file(s).

If you are not detered by running script from a commandline , the programme is actually easy to use.

Module No 78 SVoxPico (Pico2wave & PicoSpeaker) (Text To Sound Synthetiser( TSS))e earlie
(See earlier module 70,74,75,77 and 78 )

This programme maybe called by different name in different distros .Svoxpico (In Debian it's files is name libtsspico) is an Androd app ported to linux. It is small in size but have the best voice among the TSS I had tested.

I had made 2 TSS module , ie Festival and Espeak. I have tested another 3 , FreeTSS , Mary TSS and Swift TSS with Cepstral voices.

In term of voice quality (human like and clarity) , I would rate them from the best as:
SvoxPico , Swift+Cepstral , Festival and Espeak. FreeTSS and MarkTSs is not fit for use.

Svoxpico is name (here) as pico2wave as that's the name of the script to run it.
It's command line only.
Syntax
$ pico2wave -l en-US -w /tmp/test.wav "Text to speak"

- l en-US = l=language en-US = English/US
-w = Output as a wav file named test in /tmp
"Text to speak"

So it will create a wav file in temp of the text type or copy/paste in.
(See http://www.domotiga.nl/projects/domotiga/wiki/VoiceText)

This is not convenient as you have to go to the wav file in /tmp to play to hear the sound (sort of a delayed tss). So someone wrote a sript to immediately play the sound and then delete the wav file from /tmp.

#!/bin/bash
pico2wave -l=de-DE -w=/tmp/test.wav "$1"
aplay /tmp/test.wav
rm /tmp/test.wav

I made two scripts for english uk and english us.
To run svoxpico , open a console and type

pico2waveuk.sh "text to speak" for english(uk) -replace text to speak with your own text
or
pico2waveus.sh "text to speak" for english(us) -replace text to speak with your own text

Both are female voice.
Valid languages Valid languages:en-US,en-GB,de-DE,es-ES,fr-FR,it-IT

The programme is small and somewhat minimalistic (one choice of voice for each language) , but the superiority of the voice , make sense which Android can run rings around Apple and MS , while the so called bigger brother (Linux) is still the weak sibling.

Get from:- (To run pico2wave you just need what is in the pico2wave folder)

Hi jcsoh.

Youre right with SVOX Pico. Its one of the best free open source TTS Engine.

Ive compiled it from GIT on both arch and use it this way, since few month on Slax, without problem.

You can use it this way to solve the .wav file "problem" creation:

pico2wave -l en-US -w /tmp/test.wav "Text-to-speak" ; rm /tmp/test.wav

to read a text located somewhere:

pico2wave -l en-US -w /tmp/test.wav "$(cat Text-to-speak)" ; rm /tmp/test.wav

Regards.

Module No 78 SVoxPico (Pico2wave & PicoSpeaker) (Text To Sound Synthetiser( TSS))

Continue:-
Because pico2wave is minimalistic , someone else wrote a python script
(http://picospeaker.tk/ ) to add:Control for:-
Volume , rate (speed) , pitch (changing pitch can change the voice from male to female

Options:
-l|--language Language to be spoken: (default is en-US)
-v|--volume Output volume: (default is 1.0)
-r|--rate Rate of speech from -90 to 9900: (default is 0)
-p|--pitch Voice pitch from -79 to 39: (default is 0)
-o|--output Output to the specified file: (default is sound card output)
-c|--compress|-q|--quality Compression/quality level of output file, depends on output file format
This option causes an error if no output file is specified.
-t|--type Save output file as . Use only if saving with a nonstandard extension.
This option causes an error if no output file is specified.
-V|--version Print version information
-h|--help|-u|--usage Print help messagey

Unfortunately in doing so , a lots of files /dependencies is added. Pico2wav only save the sound file in wav format , picospeaker theoratically can save in whatever format supported by sox, but the right dependencies much be provided for. I added enough for it to run and no more.

You can save in wav , ogg and flac but not mp3.
For controlling sound , you can just use the speaker volume switch or alsamixer (alredy in slax) from a console.

So unless you want to play around with the speed and pitch , picospeaker doesn't have much use.
Run from a console , type

picospeaker

No Module but a How TO -Swift TSS and Cepstral Voice

http://www.cepstral.com/
It's not open source .It's not free , but you can download a fully working copy and voice with "Nag-ware" .Each time it starts, the voice will say out "This voice is unlicensed. Go to www.blahblah to purchase your license ".

The license restrict your audio output for YOUR OWN PERSONAL USE. I am uncertain as to whether the files and voice itself can be distribute . which is why I am not making a slax bundle.

(A) Go to http://www.cepstral.com/ to download
Swift TSS (Text to Speech Synthetiser) + Cepstral Voice
(i) Click personal (at top beside demo) (Don't waste time on the Demo .It sound way better . Even the nagware sentence sound better that the rest of the sentence that follow).
(ii) Select Download on the right
(iii) Check OS Box
(iv) Check Language box
The list of voice wil appear -15 En(US) 2 En(UK) (German , Spanish , Canadian French and Italian availabl)

The catch is they package a complete TSS with each voice . You actually need 1 TSS +US +UK library (assuming you want both EN (us) and (uk) , but you have no choice but to download a all in one bundle (some at 100mb).

Avoid En(US) shoutey (shouting voice) , Whispery (whispering voice and Dog (Yup a dog barking ...What in the world ?).

But if you intend to record for a loud street demostration then shoutey and dog maybe appropriate !.

(B) After download , Extract the file using ark in slax.
(C) Go inside the extracted folder . You will see an install.sh.
Run from a console , type

./install.sh

(i) Read the Agreement . Press enter repeatedly to scroll down . Do not overshoot the end . If you overshoot , start over again. The % of progress is shown , so slow down at 98%.

Press yes to accept Agreement.
From this point on , you either press "y" or "yes" (only thing you can change is the default installation set to /opt/swift. If you install to /opt it is easier to make the whole folders and files in /opt/swift into a slax bundle, but the "swift" command to run won't be in /usr/bin path , so you either make a script , or specify the path /opt/swift/swift

(D) Once the installation is complete , you have Swift TSS +1 Cepstral Voice installed in real.
The files are all the same for all voices except
/lib -For English Us and English UK 3 files are different. So if you had installed a complete English Us , just copy over the 3 english file (you see uk in their names).
and
/voice/person_name , where person name is Allison , Amy , Callie etc.

You DO NOT NEED TO INSTALL AGAIN. Just copy over the voice/person_name folder

For eg , say you had installed En US Allison , you will have

/voice/Allison and you want to add Amy , then copy over the Amy folder so that you have

/voice/Allison
/voice/Amy
/voice/Callie etc You can add as many voice as you had downloaded.

For other language need to add the extra /different files to /lib

To run swift tss , go into /bin in the extracted folder and type

./swift

Or go to /root/opt/swift where it is installed and type ./swift ( I made mine installattion into a bundle)

This will bring a help /menu list with all the options.

It's a command line only. (It use to be useable with kde in kde3 and there was a perl script to use cepstral voice with festival tss , but it's no longer on Cepstral download page.

Cepstral Male voice is superior to Festival Fesvox and other and Espeak Mbrola, but I find the female voice either have an echo , is quavering or too fast /too slow.

Module No 79 _ Mdic Dictionary 0.82 /Mdicconv o.2.6.1 (Dictionary Convertor) /Espeak 1.45.0.4 (Text To Speech)
(See module 22 above -Golden Dictionary+Wordnet Dictionary)

Mdic -Is the main dictionary programme (without any dictionary)
Mdicconv -Converts other dictionary such as Babylon glossaries (.bgl) , Stardict dictionaries (.ifo) , Freedict dictionaries (.tei) and Sdictionary dictionary (.dct) tp mdic format.
Espeak -Text to speach (tss) synthethiser - allows the word in the dictionary to be spoken.

Only Mdic+Aspell+Aspell-En is required to run mdic + at least 1 mdic dictionary.
If you use another language other than english , then aspell-en can be replaced with aspell for that particular language.

Mdic homepage:http://mdic.gnufolks.org/
Mdic dictionary:http://mdic.gnufolks.org/dictionaries.
Generic English-Persian Dictionary (50259 entries).
Ourstat Persian-English Dictionary (43745 entries).
hFarsi Advanced English-Persian Dictionary (249642 entries).
Babylon English-French Dictionary (149835 entries).
Babylon English-English Dictionary (139500 entries).
Babylon French-English Dictionary (84524 entries).
Longman Dictionary (43052 entries).

You have to download your own dictionary , as in the case of stardict , I can't be certain about their copyright status. You can google for stardict and babylon and other dictionaries.

Mdicconv is spotty as far as dictionary conversion is concerned . I failed with the conversion of stardict , and only 2 of 4 babylon dictionary were sucessful.

Espeak Tss is optional , but if installed , there is an option within mdic to speak out the word.
Mdic actually have an option for Festival Tss as well but I couldn't get it to run.

Mdic appear in the menu under utility or open a console and type mdic.
Mdicconv can be use directly withing Mdic , under the dictionary tab -convert other dictionary.
You can also use the console , type mdicconv.
Eseak must not be open in the console , otherwise Mdic wouldn't speak the word. There is no need to start Espeak separately . Just select the word or type the word in the text box and click the speaker icon on the far right.

Module No 81 Flite 1.4 (Text To Sound Synthetiser( TSS))
(See earlier module 70,74,75,77 and 78 )(If you don't mind command line interface then module 78 gives the best voice quality)

Flite (Festival Lite) . http://www.speech.cs.cmu.edu/hephaestus.html
After module no 78 svox pico , I considered my search for linux tss over as it's voice is by far superior .There is one option Nitech voice with festival that is higly praised but I could not get it working , so I can't compare.

However , I had dowloaded Flite earlier so I tried it out. Since it claimed to be Festival Lite , file sizewise it doesn't look smaller . However , it is using CMU voice (cmu =Carnegie Mellon University) . I didn't include this in my festival bundle . There was 5 or 6 voice, but I only considered 1 voice worthwhile and it bundle size for the 1 voice only is 100mb.
So all thing consider Flite size is small.
I made 2 bundles with 2 voices and 7 voices . You only need 1. See readme1st.txt file for usage.
It's command line only . I haven't tested if Festival gui Egolos will work with it or not.

Module No 89: Rilego (Java Jar Programme) (Turn images into PDF Ebook)

It intended for turning comic or manga which usuall comes in images (jpg , png) in a compressed file (zip, rar , cbz or cbr) into a pdf file for reading on tablet etc. Note if your tablet support images /compressed image it is far better to read it that way rather than as a pdf file.

Rilego is an open source rewrite of JE-Comics (both by same developer).
Rilego homepage: http://code.google.com/p/rilego/
MobileRead Forum on JE-Comics: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9125

To run just right click the jar file and chose open with java -jar

Module No 90 Epub-Read (Epub to html converter)(Script)

The name is misleading. The syntax is stated as:-
./epub-read.sh Some_book.epub

I was expecting a simple script that can open and read epub file. Actually it convert epub to html using dos2unix (a dependency which I just added to the epub-read bundle). The script will convert the epub to html in /tmp/epub??? (??? are ramdoms alphabets). Look for IndexAAA.html . There will be a bunch of temporary files.

The script will ask you to press enter to delete the tmp files . Do not press enter until you copy out the IndexAAA.html files.

It work with Epub a well a Epub3. For Epub3 with audio , the audio files are extracted as both ogg and mp3 in /tmp/OPS.

How useful is this programe . On one hand is kind of self defeating to convert epub (especially epub3 with audio / interactive graphic /audio ) to html (although some of the interactive graphic still runs in html). Why not just read the epub with a simple epub reader ?.

If you rather use the browser to read html file , there are browser extension to read epub.

But I can see a few uses:-
(a) Epub2 with audio (provided the audio are name sequentially ) , you can extract the audio file for eg chapter1.mp3 , chapter2.mp3 etc , so basically it act a a epub2adio book convertor /extractor.

(b) Epub manga . Even though the html is created , the extracted image file can be found in the tmp folder. You can copy out the image file and zip or rar in into normal comic/manga file which you can read with a comic/manga reader. But in term of practicality , it is easier to find comic/manga as zip/rar/cbz/cbr and rather as epub.

Usage : Open a console where your epub is

epub-read.sh filename.epub
Look for output IndexAAA.html in /tmp/epub???

@ Quax,
Napsal jsem kdy bude v menu start aktivní nabídka Office. Nabízel jsem pomoc!
Mám Slax 7.x.x live žádné změny a funguje to.
Já jsem tento problém již vyřešil. Ale někdo to nechce zkusit - akceptovat?

I write when the menu will start active offer Office. I offered help!
I live Slax 7.xx no changes and it works.
I've already solved this problem. But someone does not want to try - to accept?

Je snadné napsat NO MENU. Ale toto je cesta zpět.
It is easy to write NO MENU. But this is the way back.

Console: xxxx
DOS 1989

Nebo si to někdo ulehčuje. Proč dělat nabídku, ať si to někdo dodělá. Prorteus Linux má moduly kompletní.
Or someone easier. Why do offer, be it someone to do. Prorteus Linux modules is complete.

Since slax 7.0 beta is already out , it is just a matter of time before Quax's patch is applied in Slax
7.09 (slax 7 next version). Those who can't wait can try your patch.
